How to Find a Babysitter Online
You can use the internet to look for a nanny. In fact, I suggest you look online before you look elsewhere. There may be a couple of nanny services in your area that you don’t know about. Or there could be one in a nearby state that you can easily drive to. The internet will save you precious time, even if you just go online to look at the yellow pages.
Speaking of yellow pages, you can go to your local community’s website and browse the bulletin board. You can find a competent babysitter nearby this way. Of course, the fastest way to get a sitter is to ask your relatives to recommend someone, but if you have no one to ask, going online and finding a sitter is a good option.
Here are some recommendations if you’re using the internet to look for baby sitters.
Find a Good Babysitter Agency Online
There are several companies that match parents with baby sitters. When you get to the website, you can use the search function to narrow down your search according to your location. If it’s available, you can even use a feature that narrows down your search according to the type of babysitter you want to hire.
Take your time and look at resumes of the babysitters on the site. If the agency is big, you’re sure to find some matches within minutes. Your next step is to make an inquiry. Is the sitter available during the time you need her to look after your kids? Assess the terms of the babysitter including her rates before you request an interview.
Check if the site is reputable. You can do this by looking for reviews. If you really have no clue where to start looking, ask your friends about sitter services they might have used in the past.
Check if the site allows trials. You may have to pay for trial rates but at least you will be able to test out the sitter the site recommended to you before paying full price.
Remember to read the terms and conditions of the site. Look for answers to the following questions. Are they screening their applicants? Do they take responsibility if the sitter they recommended is below par? Do they screen their applicants (background checks etc.)? Compare and contrast the website service fees with other babysitter sites.
Finding a Good Candidate
When you’ve come up with a shortlist of babysitters you want to hire, you can start interviewing them. It’s best if you can talk to them face to face, but if that’s not possible, you can simply conduct a phone interview. When you have the potential babysitter in front of you, remember to ask the following…
• Does the babysitter have all your requirements?
• Is she patient with kids? How would she handle tantrums?
